Conveyancing Assistant & Secretary
We are looking for an experienced Conveyancing Assistant/Secretary to join our Conveyancing Team. Providing support for the Property department but also helping out in other departments as required.
The work will include:
Typing letters, correspondence and other documents primarily using digital dictation (BigHand) but also some copy typing.
Promptly handling new enquiries from prospective clients requiring fee estimates for moving home both on the telephone and face to face.
Using and updating the case management system including the opening of new files and preparation of client care packs.
Handling client enquiries when necessary, both in person and on the telephone and checking client ID
Completion of Land Registry forms, use of Land Registry online portal & dealing with registrations of Title with the Land Registry.
Conducting HMLR, Safemove, AML and lawyer checker searches when required.
Making appointments for lawyers with clients and other parties using Outlook
Photocopying, filing and archiving of files.
Carrying out administrative tasks as required by fee earners and/or the Practice Manager (all secretaries are occasionally required to assist with covering reception, franking post, taking post/DX and carrying out banking).

Commercial Property Solicitor/Chartered Legal Executive 2 year + PQE
We have an opportunity for a 2 year + PQE Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive to join the team at Mewies Solicitors in our Property Department. We are a well established practice providing services across all main practice areas in the ‘Gateway to the Dales’ market town of Skipton, North Yorkshire.
The successful candidate will assume responsibility for an existing caseload covering the whole spectrum of commercial property work including commercial sales and purchases, option agreements and similar arrangements, commercial leases (acting for Landlords and Tenants), commercial property finance, and agricultural property (including overage agreements). The position has excellent prospects for career progression for the right candidate.

Private Client Solicitor/Legal Executive (3 years+ PQE)
We have an opportunity for a 3 years PQE+ Solicitor or Legal Executive to join the team at Mewies Solicitors in our Private Client department. We are a well established practice providing services across all main practice areas in the ‘Gateway to the Dales’ market town of Skipton, North Yorkshire.
The successful candidate will assume responsibility for an existing caseload covering the whole spectrum of Private Client work and including:
1. Wills of all types from Instruction to Signature
2. Lasting Powers of Attorney from Instruction to Registration
3. Obtaining Grants of Representation, and administering and distributing Estates (including the preparation of Estate Accounts).
4. Advising on Inheritance Tax planning, and implementing appropriate arrangements, including the preparation of lifetime trusts and other gifting (to include Deeds of Variation).
5. Preparation and submission of Inheritance Tax Accounts and advising on Inheritance Tax liability, with particular reference to Agricultural and Business Property Reliefs.
6. Administering Lifetime and Will Trusts, including the preparation of Trust Accounts and Tax Returns and Deeds to alter or terminate trusts; attending to distribution.
7. Preparing and submitting Court of Protection Deputyship applications and ancillary applications.
8. Advising Attorneys on their duties and responsibilities and assisting where required
Skipton and the Dales is a popular retirement destination and the role often requires visits to clients at home, in hospital, or in a care/residential home.
A STEP qualification is preferred but is not a prerequisite. We would expect the successful candidate to actively pursue the full STEP Diploma if this has not already been obtained.
The position has excellent prospects for career progression for the right candidate.
